“A difficult day became an emotional and empowering experience — and I left with a big smile and my own hair.”

As a woman whose hair is very important to her, it was painful to hear the news that I would have to lose my hair.
When I heard that I would have to undergo chemotherapy, I was very upset and anxious, so I met with an advisor from Assuta Hospital who took time to sit with me and try to calm my concerns.
She asked me what I was most afraid of, and I immediately answered, "The hair... How can I do without it?"
She explained my options, and so I decided to come to Chaya.
The day before my first treatment, I went with my sister to Jerusalem. The meeting with Chaya and her sisters and all the wonderful staff made the day that could have been so difficult into the most empowering, supportive and optimistic day there could be.
I walked out of there with a big smile, knowing that I would deal with any treatment with my full head of hair.

"The ability to keep my hair the way it's most natural — it's the best thing I've ever done for myself in the process"

When I was diagnosed with cancer, the hardest part for me was knowing that I was going to lose my curly mane of hair, which is part of my personality. It was not easy for me to accept.
When I heard about Chaya and realized that I could keep my hair the way it is in the most natural way, a huge stone came off my heart.
From the beginning, Chaya and her team demonstrated caring and gentleness towards the situation and were very pleasant during the whole process. As absurd as it sounds, I really had fun with them. I enjoyed reaching out to them and I enjoyed talking to them. Everything was transparent and explained to me in a very clear and good way. I am happy about my choice and even today, after three months, I do not regret it for a moment. It's the best thing I've done for myself in this treatment process.

"Having my wig, made from my own natural hair, gave me the strength to continue fighting in my journey because the fear of 'what will happen to my hair?' disappeared."

I came to the Branfman Sisters a year ago, two weeks after I was diagnosed.
During those two weeks, the only thing I could think about was how I would lose my hair, and how I would look without it.
I remember the moment I was hospitalized. I searched the entire internet to learn about the different wigs, types and methods. Then I came across the Instagram page of Chaya Branfman, with her unique method of making a wig from my own hair.
I watched videos of the women going through the same process I was about to go through. The anxiety dropped and the realization came that I had found exactly what I was looking for - how to keep my own hair during treatment.
Arriving at the wig salon a few days before the first chemo, for counseling and scheduling, I was fascinated by the amazing staff and the amount of smiles and love that were showered on me throughout my stay there.
We set an appointment for a week after the first chemo. I arrived relaxed, because I knew what to expect. With every strand of hair that came off my head, the smiles came up, I knew I was in good hands.
I left the salon while they built the wig. After a few hours I received a call that “The wig is ready”
When I returned, I asked not to see the wig before I sat down on the chair with my eyes closed. They put the wig on, and on the countdown... I opened my eyes
For a moment I forgot it was a wig, I looked at myself in the mirror and I saw myself again and the first sentence that came out of my mouth was, “That's me.”
Not only did the wig give me back the pride I have in my hair, it also gave me the strength to continue fighting in my journey because the fear of “what will happen to my hair” disappeared.

"I was amazed at the result -- exactly me, but even better."

Despite the objective difficulties, Michal chose to adopt a positive attitude. “I'm not ashamed of anything, I'm proud to walk the streets with or without the wig,” she declares. “My father always said to me: 'Did you do something bad to someone? You have nothing to be ashamed of in that. You didn't choose it. There's nothing to be ashamed of!'”

"It felt like giving back to myself a part of me..."

"Hi, I'm Alma and I'm recovering from an aggressive type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
When I started the treatments I knew that my biggest difficulty would be losing my hair, and through Instagram I discovered Chaya Branfman's My Original.
The day after my first chemo I came in and they made a wig out of my hair.
They removed my hair, and just like magic it went back to being on my head, simply as a wig.
The staff were amazing and supportive and I came out the most satisfied person in the world.
It felt like giving back to myself a part of me..."

All the Answers You’re Looking For
Even the ones you might hesitate to ask
Do I have to come to the salon for the procedure?
No. It can be done at another location for an additional fee.
How long before treatment should I come in?
You need to come in before hair loss begins. We recommend before the first treatment, or at the latest before the second.
Can people tell it's a wig?
It looks very natural; people often can't tell it's a wig.
Is the wig uncomfortable or itchy?
The wig is built on an airy and pleasant thin mesh, for maximum comfort.
Is it covered by my health fund or insurance?
Health funds and insurers offer reimbursements; check with your insurer.
How often should I wash a wig made from my own hair?
You can wash once every two weeks or depending on your personal feeling of freshness. You do not need to go to the salon, you can wash at home — you will receive a tutorial from us as well as a video of shampooing.
Do I need special shampoo or products?
Since the wig is made of your hair, there is no need for you to change habits. You can continue to use the hair products that you have used until today (according to the shampooing instructions that will be given to you in the salon).
Does the wig stay securely in place?
The wig is tailored exactly to the size of your head, and is placed stably — like a glove on your hand, so you feel safe with it. If necessary, a velvet ribbon can be added to prevent slipping for an additional sense of security.
Is it possible to dance, swim or exercise with the wig?
We don't recommend swimming in the wig, but you can dance and exercise with it.
Is it possible to make the wig into a hair extension after my natural hair grows back in?
Yes, depending on the length of the wig.
